Avocado Taco Boats: Easy, Delicious, Dairy-Free & Gluten-Free Recipe

Eating a clean diet full of whole foods in their natural state does not mean you have to give up your favorite dishes! There are so many fun and easy ways to ditch processed food products full of artificial ingredients and allergens that cause health issues for many people like dairy and gluten. These super easy and amazingly delicious avocado taco boats are a great example of how you can enjoy a beloved dish, TACOS, in a clean and healthy way without all the poo that’s in “regular” tacos.

AVOCADO TACO BOATS

The base for these tacos is simply a ripe avocado. Avocados are loaded with heart-healthy fats, potassium, fiber, folate and multiple vitamins (B5, B6, C, E and K). The number of avocados you need depends on how many people you’re feeding – plan for 1 avocado per person. Simply cut each avocado in half , remove the pit and brush the top of each half with some fresh lime juice for a nice citrusy flavor.

Next, you’ll pick your fillings. You can customize your avocado taco boats for both meat lovers and vegans/vegetarians:

For Meat Lovers

Stuffed Avos-Beef

For meat lovers, start with a base of quality ground turkey, chicken or beef. By “quality,” I mean the meat source was:

  • Allowed to roam free (“free range”).
  • Fed an organic diet with no chemicals like pesticides or genetically-modified organisms (GMOs).
  • Never administered antibiotics, steroids or other medications.

Why is this important? Anything that went into the meat source’s system when it was being raised will end up in yours when you eat it.

Once the meat is browned (don’t miss the awesome DIY taco seasoning recipe below), fill each avocado half with it. Then, simply top the meat with a delicious veggie combo like:

  • pico de gallo.
  • chives and diced peppers.
  • organic salsa with no added sugar.

For Vegans / Vegetarians

Stuffed Avos-Quinoa Black Bean Veg

In place of meat, fill the avocados with a mixture of quinoa and black beans (don’t miss the awesome DIY taco seasoning recipe below). Then, top the taco boats with your favorite veggies like tomatoes, chives, corn, peppers, etc.

If you don’t have quinoa on-hand, you can just load the taco boats up with your favorite veggies and black beans.

DIY TACO SEASONING

Don’t waste your money on those pre-made taco seasoning packets sold in stores. Most of them are loaded with sodium and health-sabotaging artificial ingredients like preservatives. You can easily make your own delicious seasoning with this simple recipe. It’s enough for about a pound of ground meat or other filling and you’ll only make it as you need it, so none of it will go to waste:

NOTE: I highly recommend investing in organic spices/seasonings, so you’re not eating spices that have chemicals like pesticides or silicone dioxide ground into them. I buy most of mine in bulk from Amazon.com to save money. I have provided links to the ones I use in the list of ingredients above. Also, consider getting a membership to Thrive Market to save LOADS of cash on all your healthy pantry staples, as well as non-toxic household cleaners and personal care products. If you can’t stomach avocados or don’t have any on-hand, you can use baked sweet potatoes instead.

Cheers to enjoying these healthy tacos that will keep your clean eating adventures spicy and delicious!
