Health Benefits of Turmeric AKA “Nature’s Medicine”

“Let food by thy medicine.” This is a well-known quote from Hippocrates, one of the most outstanding figures in the history of medicine. I bet he had turmeric in mind when he made this statement. Here’s why:

Turmeric is arguably the most powerful herb on the planet for fighting disease and potentially reversing it. It has so many healing properties that there are thousands of published articles that prove the health benefits of turmeric and its star healing compound, curcumin.

Of the thousands of studies that reference curcumin, perhaps the most notable finding is that its benefits equal that of many pharmaceutical medications. In fact, a number of scientific studies have reported that curcumin is more advantageous than certain prescription drugs.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF TURMERIC

Anti-Inflammatory & Pain Killer

The most powerful benefit of curcumin is its ability to control inflammation in the human body and manage pain. In fact, studies have shown that curcumin is among the most effective anti-inflammatory compounds in the world, whereas aspirin and ibuprofen are among the least effective.

This is extremely exciting news, because inflammation in the body puts people at risk for almost every disease known to man like cancer, arthritis, high cholesterol, chronic pain and ulcerative colitis. It’s awesome to know you can fight inflammation with a simple piece of nature instead of synthetic medications that come with loads of potential side effects!

Cancer Treatment

Laboratory studies have shown that curcumin interferes with cancer development, growth and spread. Additionally, researchers have reported that curcumin can reduce tumor size and kill cancer cells, and that it may even be able to block the formation of cancer-causing enzymes in the body.

Anti-Depressant

Studies have shown that the curcumin in turmeric is just as effective as Prozac in managing mild depression.

Arthritis Relief

Because of its powerful anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing properties, curcumin is an extremely effective tool for managing arthritis.

Diabetes Management

Turmeric is a superior natural treatment for lowering blood sugar and reversing insulin resistance. Studies have shown that the curcumin in turmeric is 400 times more potent than Metformin (a common drug used to treat diabetes) for improving insulin sensitivity and helping to reverse Type 2 Diabetes.

In addition to addressing the causes of diabetes, curcumin has also been proven to help reverse many of the issues related to insulin resistance and hyperglycemia.

For example, one of the most common complications of diabetes is damaged blood vessels that cause blindness. A study found that supplementing with curcumin can delay this tragic complication of diabetes because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Cholesterol Regulator

An alarming number of people in the U.S. suffer from oxidative stress in their body caused by high blood sugar levels and inflammation. This oxidative stress damages the inside of blood vessels/arteries. As a result, the body creates cholesterol to “patch up” the damaged areas which leads to high levels of the bad (LDL) cholesterol.

Since curcumin naturally reduces inflammation and lowers blood sugar, using turmeric to manage cholesterol actually addresses the cause of the problem. The statin drugs (like Lipitor) that are commonly used to manage cholesterol don’t actually address the cause of the issue AND they have widely-known side effects like liver and kidney damage.

  PRECAUTION

People taking medications or dealing with serious health issues should always consult with their medical provider before using anything (even natural options like turmeric) to treat their health condition.

WORKING TURMERIC INTO YOUR DAILY DIET

Now that you know the amazing health benefits of turmeric, you’ll likely want to incorporate it into your daily diet! If you don’t mind the taste, you can mix it in with scrambled eggs, soups, ground organic meat or steamed veggies.

The key is making sure to include turmeric in a mix with black pepper and a healthy source of fat (like avocado or coconut oil) to fully release its benefits and help your body absorb the curcumin effectively. Studies show this can increase absorption by 154 percent!

If you’re like me and don’t love the taste of turmeric, you can work it into your diet through a delicious drink known as “turmeric tea,” “liquid gold” or “golden milk.” Click here for my simple and tasty recipe that will enhance your health and rock your tastebuds at the same time.
