Why Exercise Is Important for Detoxing Your Body

It’s no secret that exercise has multiple health benefits.

  • Exercise strengthens your muscles, bones and joints.
  • Exercise helps you burns calories and reduce body fat (important for weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight.)
  • Exercise improves your cardiovascular (heart) health.
  • Exercise helps with your flexibility and agility.
  • Exercise has an amazing anti-aging effect on your body and makes you feel good by releasing a burst of endorphins into your system. (It’s the best natural high around!)

And then there is an important benefit of exercise that is often overlooked: it helps your body to detoxify itself! (Click here for details on why detoxing your body is so important!)

How Exercise Detoxifies Your Body

Your body is constantly working to eliminate toxins. For example, your colon and kidneys continuously work to eliminate waste from your body through urination and bowel movements.

Your lungs are another great example…they filter out toxins and debris from the air you breath before the oxygen is absorbed by your blood and taken to your muscles.

And then there are processes in your body that are critical for detox, but they need your help for making them happen. This is where exercise comes in!

Exercise releases toxins from your body through sweating.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body and, therefore, has an amazing capacity for releasing toxins from your body. Intense exercise raises your body temperature and makes you sweat, allowing your skin to cleanse your body from the inside out through the process of perspiration.

Loads of toxins are eliminated through your skin by sweating when you exercise.

Exercise creates lymph movement in your body, which kills toxins and protects you from infection.

Your lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs that help your body get rid of toxins, waste and other unwanted material. The main function of your lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a clear fluid that contains infection-fighting white blood cells, throughout your body.

Your lymphatic system consists primarily of lymphatic vessels, which are connected to your lymph nodes. Your lymph (fluid) collects unwanted “muck” in your body like fats, bacteria and other harmful materials and then filters them through your lymph nodes.

Your lymphatic system does not have a  built-in “pump” to help your lymph circulate through your body. Your lymph system relies entirely on your body’s movements for circulation!

When you get your body moving through exercise, your lymph is able to circulate throughout your body. This lymph movement allows your liver and lymph nodes to cleanse and purify the environment in your body much more effectively. Think of exercise as an amazing detox “pump” for your body!

Exercise improves digestive processes, allowing your body to eliminate waste more efficiently.

When you exercise, you breathe more deeply. This brings more air into your lungs and increases the circulation of oxygen throughout your body. This increased oxygen intake stimulates your digestive system, allowing it to purge more effectively.

Exercise reduces your body’s fatty tissue, which is where many toxins are stored.

Lots of toxins get stored in your body’s subcutaneous fatty tissue. Exercise works to reduce your fatty tissue, which releases the toxins that are stored there and allows them to be eliminated through your cleansing organs.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT HYDRATION:

When you make a point to regularly sweat through exercise, it’s important to increase your water intake. This will ensure you stay hydrated and will help the cleansing systems in your body to flush out unwanted toxins, fats and waste even more effectively.

Finding an Exercise Program to Help You Detox

Want to know which fitness program is the best one for you? It’s the one you’ll do!

Like most things in life, one size does not fit all when it comes to exercise. If there’s a particular type of workout you can’t stand, you simply won’t do it. The key is finding a fitness program you love that meets your individual needs and fitness goals.

Or let’s say you’ve already found a fitness program you love, but you’ve mastered it and have stopped progressing. Or you’re getting bored and just need to try something new.

To continuously progress in your fitness / detox journey, it’s important to change things up and have access to a variety of workout formats.

Or what if you’re someone who:

  • Doesn’t like working out around a bunch of other people in gyms.
  • Can’t afford an expensive gym membership.
  • Has very limited time to do your workouts.
  • Prefers working out at home.
  • Travels often and doesn’t typically have access to a fitness facility.
  • Would love to have a personal trainer come train you in your home, but it’s too expensive.
  • Enjoys group fitness classes, but your schedule doesn’t allow you to attend them.
  • Has children and needs the convenience of being able to workout when and where you can.

The Importance of Continuous Movement

We’ve already established that exercising intensely to the point that you’re sweating is critical for helping your body detox effectively. The good news is you only need to workout at an intense level for about 30 minutes to achieve a killer workout.

But what about the rest of your waking hours in the day? You can’t workout for 30 minutes and then sit for the rest of the day, and expect your body to be a well-oiled detoxing machine. You have to keep moving to stimulate lymph movement in your body!

10,000 Steps a Day

You’ve likely heard the recommendation that you should be taking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. This number was derived from research that showed taking at least 10,000 steps a day noticeably lowers your risk of cardiovascular disease.

The easiest way to make sure you’re hitting 10,000 steps each day is to invest in an activity tracker. I personally use and love Fitbit trackers, because they also track your sleep and other helpful data.

Going for walks throughout the day is a great way to stay active and hit your 10,000 steps. But what if the weather doesn’t permit for you to walk outside? What if your job / schedule doesn’t allow you to take frequent walks?

Or what if you’ve committed to binge-watching your favorite show or promised to have a movie marathon with your kids? That’s when having portable pieces of fitness equipment like a small rebounder (AKA trampoline) or stepper comes in really handy!

Rebounder

The bouncing motion that results from rebounding is great for detox, because it stimulates lymph movement in your body.

If you want to invest in a top-of-the-line rebounder that’s used by fitness professionals for actual trampoline/rebounding classes, click here to check out a great option from JumpSport Fitness on amazon.

If a basic trampoline will do the trick, click here to check out a highly-rated and super affordable trampoline from Stamina.

Stepper

Steppers simulate the movement of walking up and down stairs. Like rebounding, they create an up-and-down motion that’s great for lymph movement in your body.

I personally use and highly recommend the Air Climber, which you can score here in amazon.

A Great Tool for Curing the “Sitting Disease”

The term “Sitting Disease” has been coined by the scientific community and refers to the negative health effects of an overly sedentary lifestyle.

Unfortunately, many people have jobs that require them to sit at a desk all day, which is a major contributing factor to the “Sitting Disease” epidemic.

Keep in mind that movement is critical for stimulating your body to detox. That means sitting for excessive periods of time will hinder your detox efforts.

And that’s on top of the other negative health effects the result from excessive sitting like increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat and unhealthy cholesterol levels.

Enter the VARIDESK!

If you suffer from this disease due to a desk job, there’s a really easy cure! It’s called a VARIDESK and turns any regular desk into an adjustable standing desk in seconds (mine is pictured below).

The VARIDESK comes fully assembled and is super easy to adjust from standing to sitting and vice versa. It’s available in multiple sizes to accommodate specific desk set-ups, like having dual monitors.

Click here to check out the VARIDESK options on amazon.

Cheers to detoxing your body through exercise and continuous movement!

With love and gratitude,

Kandi
