Even black coffee lovers like myself can’t resist the siren song of a delicious creamy latte from time to time.
What I can resist, however, is the storm of crap that comes with the concoction in most lattes made in restaurants and coffee shops…commercial dairy products, partially hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, refined sugar and preservatives. No thanks!
After doing lots of research and recipe testing at home, I was thrilled to find a healthy latte recipe that’s easy to make, dairy-free and tastes DE-LISH!
You ready for it?
THE RECIPE
Ingredients
- 1 Cup of Brewed Organic Coffee
- 1 Teaspoon of Coconut Oil (You can add an additional teaspoon if you want it thicker and creamier.)
OPTIONAL: The coconut oil will add a hint of sweetness on its own. If you like a little more sweetness and enjoy a vanilla and/or cinnamon essence in your coffee, you can add these ingredients:
- 1 Teaspoon of Organic Coconut Sugar or Pure Maple Syrup
- 1/4 Teaspoon of Organic Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 Teaspoon of Organic Ceylon Cinnamon
Directions
- Put all the ingredients into a high-speed blender. (I highly recommend investing in a Blendtec for exceptional blending performance.)
- Blend the mixture on a high speed for about 20 seconds until it’s creamy and frothy.
- Pour into your favorite coffee cup and enjoy! (If you love leopard-print cups as much as I do, check out this adorable set!)
WHAT MAKES IT HEALTHY?
Coconut oil is high in medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs), particularly one called lauric acid.
Our bodies convert lauric acid into a substance called monolaurin, which is a highly beneficial antiviral and antibacterial compound that destroys a wide variety of disease-causing organisms.
Also, research has shown that the type of fat in coconut oil helps the body produce energy, and it may increase healthy (HDL) cholesterol levels. BOOM-SHAKALAKA!
Cheers to enjoying a creamy latte that’s fresh, javalicious and free of unhealthy ingredients!
With love and gratitude,
Kandi
