Natural Detox Drink That’s Delicious & Super Easy To Make

Detox. It’s not about expensive potions, fancy programs or punishing cleanses that leave you feeling weak and constantly hungry.

Detox is something you should be focusing on everyday by eating a clean diet full of natural foods that continuously cleanse your system to prevent disease and build your immunity.

Below is the recipe for one of my favorite detox drinks, which you can enjoy as often as you’d like. It has 5 simple ingredients that you just toss in the blender and enjoy!

It tastes like a healthy piña colada with a beautiful green color. If I’m feeling bloated, sluggish or having any issues in the bathroom, I pound one of these babies and I start to feel better almost instantly!


THE RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of purified or spring water
  • 1/2 cup of organic spinach
  • 1/2 cup of organic cucumber slices
  • 1/2 cup of pineapple (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 teaspoon of organic extra virgin coconut oil
  • Juice of 1 Lime

RECIPE NOTE: Invest in a citrus squeezer like this to make juicing lemons and limes a snap!

Directions

  1. Put all the ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend until smooth and frothy. (I highly recommend investing in a Blendtec blender to make blending your healthy recipes a snap! Use the smoothie setting for this recipe.)
  2. Pour the mixture into a fun glass and enjoy!

TIP: Invest in a set of glass straws like these instead of burning through disposable ones made of toxic plastic. These glass straws are non-toxic, super easy to clean and you can use them again and again!

HOW THE INGREDIENTS WORK FOR DETOX

 Spinach. Leafy green veggies like spinach contain chlorella, which helps cleanse and increase the oxygen in your blood to improve the health of your cells. Also, spinach is an “alkalizing” food, meaning it battles bad bacteria and yeast in your body to keep things in balance and prevent disease-causing inflammation.

Cucumber. Cucumbers are made up mostly of water, which makes them very hydrating and able to help your body flush out toxins. They are a powerful antioxidant and a great source of vitamin B, potassium and magnesium which can help lower blood pressure and fight disease.

Cucumbers contain an anti-inflammatory flavonol called “fisetin” that can improve brain health, and they have polyphenols called “lignans” which are known cancer fighters. (SIDE NOTE: Throw a few cucumber slices in a glass of water for a super quick and refreshing detox drink!)

Pineapple. Pineapples are loaded with bromelain, a powerful digestive enzyme that cleanses your colon and helps your body get rid of harmful bacteria. Pineapples are also chock full of vitamin C, which combats the free radicals in your body that seek to attack healthy cells.

Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is primarily comprised of medium-chain fatty acids, which are sent directly to your liver to use as energy (as opposed to storing them). This immediate passage to the liver plays a crucial role in cleansing the body and helping the liver to flush toxins out quickly.

Lime Juice. Limes are loaded with antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins that help to loosen toxins in the digestive tract and improve digestion. Lime juice helps clean out the liver, which is the body’s filter, preventing it from getting bogged down with pollutants.

Lime juice also fights water retention, which increases urination and helps the body flush out toxins faster.

Though citrus fruits like limes seem to be acidic in nature, they are very good at alkalizing your system – this reduces inflammation, which is the primary cause of disease in your body.
