Easy DIY Bronzing Powder

Bronzing powder has quickly become a staple in the beauty routine of both men and women alike. It’s an easy way to get a sun-kissed glow in a matter of seconds. But who wants a glow that’s loaded with toxins?

Like many cosmetics on the market, commercial bronzers tend to be loaded with ingredients that you simply don’t want in your body…and that’s exactly where they end up once you apply them to your skin.

The good news is it’s SUPER easy to make your own bronzing powder with a few simple ingredients from your kitchen and little lavender essential oil. Not only does it work beautifully, it smells fantastic!

THE DIY FORMULA

This bronzing powder is a snap to make!

Here’s the simple formula:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of cacao powder
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons of arrowroot powder
  • 15 drops of lavender essential oil (I get mine here.)

NOTE: If you prefer the powder to be loose instead of compact, simply leave out the essential oil.

A few tips on the color:

  • Cinnamon provides glow.
  • Cacao gives depth and darkness.
  • Nutmeg provides a sun-kissed brown.
  • Arrowroot powder lightens and spreads the color out.

Special Equipment:

You’ll need an empty compact or small glass jar. You can simply reuse a makeup compact you already have once it has been emptied and washed thoroughly. Or, you can find empty compacts here on amazon.

Directions:

  1. In a small glass bowl, slowly mix the cinnamon, cacao, nutmeg and arrowroot powder together a little at a time until you find your desired shade. Use a makeup brush to test it out on the top of your hand as you go.
  2. Once you’ve reached the desired shade, mix in the essential oil. If you prefer loose powder, skip this step.
  3. If using essential oil, firmly pack the finished bronzing powder into a compact. If not, simply put the loose powder in a glass jar.

I just reuse empty compacts from my organic pressed powder:

Here’s a look at the color mixing process:

Here’s the finished product. I had enough to fill 2 compacts. It smells so good!
