DIY Coffee Body Scrub

Are you a coffee drinker, or do you live with one?

I’m the coffee lover in my house, and I enjoy a healthy cup of java every single day!

When I used to throw the coffee grounds away after brewing my daily cup of joe, it felt so wasteful. So, I decided to put those used coffee grounds to good use by transforming them into an awesome natural body scrub!

(My heart absolutely sings when I can get two-for-one use out of a healthy product.)

WHY USE COFFEE GROUNDS IN A BODY SCRUB?

Increased Circulation:

Crushed coffee beans release small of amounts of caffeine, which can increase circulation when massaged into your skin. This increased circulation releases the fluid that’s in your lymphatic system, which is important for detoxification and overall health. Plus, it can improve the appearance of cellulite.

Exfoliation:

The coarse texture of coffee grounds also helps to gently exfoliate your skin. This gets rid of dead skin cells and allows new cells to turnover, making your skin look rejuvenated and more radiant. When used regularly, the exfoliating effects of coffee grounds can notably soften your skin and even reduce scarring. SCORE!

Invigorating Smell:

Last but not least, the coffee smells DELICIOUS and makes you feel energized while it beautifies your skin! I know many people who don’t like to drink coffee but love the smell.

THE FORMULA

Ingredients:

A NOTE ABOUT WORKING WITH COCONUT OIL: Coconut oil stays in a soft solid state at temperatures of 75° F and lower. It liquifies at temperatures of 76° F and higher. It is just as effective in either state. The only difference is that it’s easier to mix and apply when it’s liquified. For easy melting, put the coconut oil in a glass jar, screw the lid on tight, fill your sink with hot water and sit the jar in the hot water until the oil melts. Or, you can melt it in a glass bowl using a microwave.

 Directions:

  1. Mix the coffee grounds, melted coconut oil, sugar and essential oils in a glass bowl until everything is well combined.
  2. Disrobe and stand in the shower, tub or on a towel, because things are going to get messy!
  3. Using a palmful of scrub, start at your feet and work your way up your body exfoliating in a circular motion until you’ve reached your neck. You can also use the scrub on your face, unless your facial skin has special needs or is super sensitive.
  4. Spend several minutes gently massaging the scrub on your skin to achieve the maximum benefits.
  5. Turn on the water in the shower or tub and rinse your skin off thoroughly. (HEADS UP: Coconut oil can cause a very slippery surface, so use caution!)
  6. Store any leftovers in a glass jar with a tight lid.
  7. Use the coffee scrub once a week.

OTHER BENEFITS OF THIS SCRUB

The coconut oil in this body scrub is deeply moisturizing and has antiviral, antimicrobial and antibacterial powers.

The granulated sugar is an excellent exfoliator that encourages cell turnover for fresher, younger looking skin.

Lemon and sweet orange essential oils have astringent, detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties that help your skin glow. Plus, they smell amazing and can improve your mood!

MAKES A GREAT GIFT

This DIY scrub makes a fun and unique gift to give to others for special occasions.

Simply package the scrub in glass 4-oz. jars (like this) and put a pretty bow on top!
